Brief Summary of Work for this Position

This position is part of the Business Core Services Team within UNCW's College of Health and Human Services (

CHHS). The Director of Operations reports to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Resource Management and manages the daily operations, events, facility management, and space planning for the College. This individual is responsible for:

  • Overseeing daily operations including facility management and all non-academic course scheduling in buildings utilized and occupied by CHHS.
  • Ensuring appropriate planning, execution, and reporting of events sponsored by CHHS or held in locations managed by CHHS.
  • Creating, prioritizing, and communicating work orders for maintenance, repairs, and minor remodeling and renovation projects.
  • Managing all capital asset, fixed asset, and equipment planning, tracking, and reporting for the College.
  • Working closely with UNCW's offices of Facilities, Information Technology Services ( ITS), Space Planning, Environmental Health and Safety, and Enterprise Risk Management as well as working with campus partners in shared buildings.
  • Coordinating space management with appropriate university offices and committees.
  • Managing CHHS's continuity of operations and emergency management planning, and the execution of the plan.
  • Directly supervising three coordinators and indirectly supervising up to 25 student workers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or equivalent combination of traini g and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with experience:

  • Two years of professional experience in facility management, special event programming, or related field
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Working in higher education, especially in event/conference management or facility management
  • Working in large or complex environments with multiple stakeholder groups
  • Developing student employees
  • Providing basic support for computers, technology, and/or audio/visual equipment
  • Using space scheduling and event management software

The College of Health and Human Services (

CHHS) is an interdisciplinary and integrated academic unit that includes three professional schools: the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, and the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences. The

BCST) provides centralized financial, human resources, event management, facility management, systems training and support, and reporting services to all
