JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for Deputy Divison Head to join our Navigation Research and Development Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL/Penn State’s purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs. This position will assist with directing research projects, supervising department heads, directing strategic initiatives, and maintaining relationships with external partners.

This position may be filled as either a Research and Development Engineering or a non-tenure Research Faculty.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

You will:

  • Serve as technical expert in all areas of navigation technology, including geophysical and inertial navigation as well as navigation algorithms and integration.

  • Provide technical leadership to division programs and projects

  • Provide mentorship to division technical staff

  • Support division business development efforts

  • Propose new initiatives

  • Support strategic planning activities

  • Serve as member of search and hiring committees

  • Oversee development of plans and proposals for new programs

  • Interact and collaborate regularly with program management, program sponsors and stakeholders

  • Perform engineering work related to navigation engineering

Faculty rank will be commensurate with education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelors' degree in an Engineering or Science Discipline plus 5 years' related experience.

Required skills/knowledge include:

  • Navigation experience in a DoD (Department of Defense) environment

  • Expertise with PNT technologies which include: Inertial Navigation, Global Positioning System, Alternative Navigation Technologies, Geophysical Navigation

  • Experience supporting DoD and IC programs

  • Excellent presentation skills and effective written and oral communication

Your work location will be in Warminster, PA. Depending on project requirements there is opportunities to work hybrid (on-site/work from home) or fully on-site.

You will be required to travel to support division activities.
