Position Description

The Masonry Worker-Parks is responsible for leading and working with a crew performing a variety of skilled masonry construction activities using hand and power tools, and other construction equipment. Performs related duties as required.

Work Hours: This position may require overtime work.

Typical Duties

  • Laying block, stone & brick for the repair and remodeling of building & walls.

  • Building & repairing foundations & retaining walls.

  • Installing and repairing sidewalks, concrete pads, manholes, and related structures.

  • Installing and cleaning drainage pipes, grates, header walls & related structures.

  • Making welding repairs to various structures.

  • Setting ceramic tile, plastering new walls and patching plaster where needed.

  • Erecting & repairing fences & guard rails.

  • Maintaining tools & equipment.

  • Operating, towing, or transporting equipment or commercial motor vehicles.

  • Reading & interpreting blueprints & specifications.

  • Observing job site and area for other maintenance needs and assisting as needed.

  • Maintaining reports and records of jobs completed and in progress.

  • Training employees in the masonry trade.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Eighth Grade Education and one (1) year of general masonry experience

License Required:

Valid Driver’s License

*NOTE: Applicants must obtain a TN Class A Driver’s License within 6 months of hire, and it must be maintained during employment. Failure to obtain the CDL within the six (6) month probationary period may result in automatic termination/dismissal. Candidates who possess or obtain a CDL license must be able to pass a drug/alcohol test and are subject to random testing.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience operating machinery such as Skid-Steer Loader, Backhoe, Dump Truck, and Concrete Mixer

  • Experience laying block, stone and brick for the repair and remodeling of buildings and walls

  • Experience finishing and repairing sidewalks
