Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Mountain View, California

The Agents Engineering team inside Azure AI is responsible for providing services that enable complex task completion using natural language, reasoning, and long-term planning & execution. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who is interested in building these highly scalable AI services, that leverage modern, bleeding-edge technologies. Responsibilities

  • Work on complex, mission-critical solutions that involve multiple Azure Services (Kubernetes, Event Hubs, Event Grid, Service Bus, etc.).

  • Work on state-of-the-art technologies from Machine Learning, OpenAI, Natural Language Programming and Prompt engineering

  • Conduct experiments to evaluate model performance, robustness, and generalization.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including researchers, software engineers, and product managers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Qualifications

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience in designing, developing and maintaining distributed systems.

  • Familiar with cloud computing technologies such as K8s and Docker.

  • System design, algorithmic skills, and knowledge of data structures​.

  • Debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with transformer-based models (e.g., BERT, GPT, T5, Llama).

  • Experience with AutoGen, LangChain, or other model-orchestration techniques towards task completion is a plus.

  • Experience with Cloud Native Software.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
