Microsoft Corporation Principal Network Engineer in Mountain View, California

At Azure Specialized, we're here to answer this call and bring in the next generation of mission-critical workloads on our Public Cloud platform. We collaborate across Microsoft to enable end-to-end new scenarios for Azure customers. Our team develops unique customer features and essential building blocks at the core of the Azure networking platform, working closely with many industry partners.

As a Principal Network Engineer specializing in Cloud Networking, you will architect, design and operate on the latest networking platform, providing customers with a rich set of networking features and the highest level of network security. You will collaborate with internal and external teams, as well as industry partners, to ensure that customer and business requirements are met while upholding our Service Level Agreement (SLA). This role provides an opportunity for you to leverage and expand your expertise in large-scale networking while driving the effort to enhance the resiliency, performance and debuggability of our networking solutions. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting customer reported incidents and continuously improving the quality of our offerings. This opportunity allows flexible hours and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • You drive the adoption of practices across organizations to improve capabilities to identify risks and prevent classes of bugs. You define telemetry analytics and quality metrics to drive new data collection instrumentation that can improve the detection and troubleshooting of problems. You troubleshoot and repair complex multi-layer live site issues. You participate in on-call duties to manage and resolve incidents in production and advise engineers on best practices for repairing issues.

  • You design and develop the new and emerging networking solutions within your area of experience to proactively meet customer requirements and resolve fundamental flaws. You demonstrate deep knowledge of data (i.e., know what data is needed, find new and missing data, and coordinate the development of pipelines). You analyze traffic patterns across complete network infrastructures to identify needs to modify capacity.

  • You operates networking solutions with the highest quality bar and invest in developing and deploying robust automation tools that increase engineering efficiency, minimize operational burden, and reduce human errors, while optimizing the utilization of infrastructure and resources.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 9+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology,

  • OR related field AND 12+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology,

  • OR related field AND 8+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology,

  • OR related field AND 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. 3+ years experience delivering network designs into production and experience with live site accountability for a network

Cloud Network Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
