Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Laboratory Assistant (1.0 FTE) - Pediatrics Clinic in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Hennepin Healthcare is hiring a Laboratory Assistant (1.0 FTE: 5 days/week, 8 hour shifts) for our Pediatrics Clinic in downtown Minneapolis to work day shift.

**This position is currently Monday-Friday day hours but may expand to include evenings and weekends as we grow.

A hiring incentive ($1,000) is available for eligible external candidates (current and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible).

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs work that involves collecting and/or processing laboratory specimens, entering data into the electronic health record (EHR) and/or the laboratory information system (LIS). Interacts and communicates with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team by using various communication tools in a timely and professional manner

RESPONSIBILITIES: **

Ambulatory (Community Clinics/CSC)

  • Assists in maintaining supplies and helping with inventory
  • Assists with training of new staff members and students
  • Performs standard procedures for the collection of laboratory samples including but not limited to: o Patient identification o Venipuncture collection o Capillary collection o Urine collection o Documentation of collection in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Reviews and releases patient laboratory orders in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Reviews, orders, and collects patient laboratory orders from an outside facility according to standard operating procedures
  • Properly processes and distributes specimens following collection
  • Explains collection processes and procedures to patients, customers, and their families
  • Prepares specimens for send out to reference laboratory (HHS Main Campus), including properly labeling, aliquoting of specimens, and any associated LIS documentation (transfer lists)
  • Prepares, performs, and documents select testing according to standard operating procedures for which they have received applicable training and supervisor approval to perform

QUALIFICATIONS: /Minimum Qualifications:/

  • High school diploma or GED

-OR-

  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

/Preferred Qualifications:/

  • Certified or certified-eligible with a nationally accredited phlebotomy association

  • Completion of ten quarter credits of biology or chemistry college courses

-OR-

  • Six Months of experience in a clinical laboratory setting

/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:/

  • Customer Service skills
